Spring and autumn cultivated glasshouse tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) plants of Perkoz F_1 cultivar, being propagated via organogenesis with the sterile seedlings decapitation method on a hormone-less MS medium and from leaf and shoot fragments on MS medium with IAA (0.2 mg centre dot l~(-1)) and BA (2 mg centre dot l~(-1) were confronted with plants obtained traditionally from seeds (controls). Plants raised from leaves and shoots pieces on MS medium with hormones were conspicuous by their more compact habit. Spring grown plants being raised in both manners from tissue cultures had less flowers in given trusses but a higher percentage of fruits set than controls. In the autumnal cultivation instead, in vitro raised plants exceeded the control plants in respect of both these traits. Root quality in plants being raised from tissue cultures in both markers was better than in controls obtained from seeds. The results obtained incline the authors to hope for the potential of micropropagation as practical production method of tomato transplants.
