Shell's Mr. Muktiadi Rahardjo sees dialogue as the way to improve valve performance. It's often said that the role of the valve engineer is sadly undervalued. If all the plants' valves are functioning perfectly then his work is perceived to be futile, yet the moment a single valve fails all eyes turn to him for sound and fast engineering solutions. Still, that hasn't stopped mechanical engineer Mr. Muktiadi Rahardjo from carving out a very successful career in Asia and Europe, a career in which he is looking to challenge mind-sets as a way to bringing about improvements in valve performance. He may only be in his mid-thirties but Adi ("please call me Adi, it's much more convenient than Mr. Rahardjo!") already has a very impressive CV to his name, having worked for Aker Kvaerner Subsea, Geographe Energy Indonesia (A Cameron company), Profab Total Valve Service, Pertamina Hulu Energy ONWJ, Tetra Pak, Aker Solutions and, coming right up to date, the Shell refinery at Pernis from early 2014. Since graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, valves have always been at the core of his professional life, taking in disciplines such as specification, engineering, maintenance, staff management, etc. He has acquired a handson knowledge of standard and engineered valves in applications such as upstream and downstream, chemicals, utilities, etc.
