Keeping those pulp slurries moving: an interview with Gunnar Bjorck

When it comes to talking about the pulp and paper industry, Gunnar Bjorck has a lot of valuable experience to communicate, for he has worked in the industry for almost a quarter of a century. He is employed at the Ostrand Pulp Mill located outside Sundsvall in northern Sweden where he is the General Manager of the Maintenance and Engineering Department. This means taking care of something like 20,000 valves including 2500 control valves. Although most of these probably have a lifespan of some fifteen to twenty years, it does mean replacing around three hundred 100-300 mm valves per year. It's therefore a busy working life he leads and in this article he relates some of the challenges, which he and his team come across whilst carrying out their duties.
