USA-STARS - Working together for mutual success

Utilities Service Alliance (USA) is a not-for-profit membership cooperative designed to facilitate collaboration among its member utilities. The member utilities work together to reduce operating and maintenance costs, improve safety and performance, and provide innovation and leadership within the nuclear power industry, with the vision of working together to be a fleet of safe, cost-effective, top-quartile operators. The STARS Alliance (Strategic Teaming and Resource Sharing) collaborated with USA to form the USA-STARS Valve Team. The Air-Operated Valve (AOV) Team formed in 1998 for plants to collaborate on the industry's Joint Owners Group AOV Program reviews and implementation and a Motor-Operated Valve (MOV) Team was added in 2004 to share on MOV issues. Valve World had the opportunity to meet with USA-STARS Valve Team Program Manager, Tim Scoggins, to discuss the benefits of the virtual fleet, the importance of sharing best practices, and transferring knowledge.
