According to Energy Recovery Inc., UTE Cap Djinrt, a consortium consisting of Inima (Grupo OHL) and Aqualia (Grupo FCC), has selected the PX Pressure Exchanger (PX) devices for a large desalination plant to be built in Algeria. The new facility, to be built at Cap Djinet, will convert seawater to 100,000cum of drinking water each day Seawater desalination refers to the process of making drinking water from ocean water: The salts and other impurities are removed through a process known as reverse osmosis (RO) membrane filtration, a method that produces some of the quality drinking water available. Energy Recovery estimates that its PX technology will save 9MW of electrical power at Cap Djinet and improve the carbon footprint of the plant by 26,000tns of CO_2 per year.
