Autoantibody and transplant vasculopathy: the enemy within.

Increasing numbers of clinical publications report an association between transplantation and humoral autoim-munity, and although there can now be little doubt that transplantation may act as a trigger for development of autoan-tibody, many aspects of this response remain poorly understood. Two particular questions merit focused study; why does transplantation break autoreactive B-cell tolerance and does autoan-tibody contribute to allograft rejection?
