Tunnelling completed on the DPT

JULY and August saw two major milestones in the construction of the Dublin Port Tunnel (see World Tunnelling September 2003 for full project details). Firstly, on 19 July, the final section of the cut and cover tunnel on the M1 near the Coolock Interchange was cast. The heavy civil engineering construction phase of the cut and cover section is now nearing completion and is now being fitted out. And, on 18 August, TBM 1, named Grainne, holed through at the end of its second journey, thus completing the tunnel boring on the project.
