It is nice to see that we at TTC are not the only ones that feel that coverage of both the tunnelling and trenchless industries belong under a single banner. The forthcoming TAC event 'Advances in Tunnelling & Trenchless Techniques' in Edmonton, Canada, in September would seem to believe the same, given the title of the conference. It will be interesting to see to what extent the conference will cover the environmental benefits of tunnelling and trenchless technologies. This is an area all too often overlooked when conference papers are put together. Also, while at the UKSTT Awards Dinner in March this year, the awards presenter, UK broadcaster and naturalist Chris Packham, commented that although he was not fully up to speed with the various trenchless technologies, his short time talking with Jon Boon, UKSTT chairman and others at the event had opened his eyes to the major role for no-dig in environmental and wildlife protection with environmental benefits that should be championed.
