Record falls for India's rigid truck market

Poor economic growth and a slump in industrial production index have greatly affected the production and sales of medium and heavy trucks in fiscal April to March 2012-13. The total number of medium and heavy rigid trucks manufactured in the year 2012-13 fell from 313,219 units to 209,509 units, a decrease of 33 per cent during the same period in 2012-13. While the sales of medium and heavy rigid trucks (7.5t gvw and above) in India decreased by 25.4 per cent from 270,832 trucks in fiscal 2011 -12 compared with 202,011 units in fiscal 2012-13.
