Mercedes Benz India Pvt Ltd has inaugurated the opening of its new vehicle manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune, which has a capacity to manufacture 1200 commercial vehicles (trucks and buses) and 5000 passenger cars on a single shift basis. Mercedes-Benz India plans build a range of heavy duty trucks and tractors, as well as city buses and multi-axle luxury coaches. The company has invested INR3000m on developing the new plant, which it completed within 13 months. The plant is located within a 100 acre site, which offers plenty of room for further expansion in the future. It has two assembly areas, one for passenger cars and one for commercial vehicles.
