Scania and Golaz collaboration to deliver 709 buses for Winter Olympic Games in Sochi

Amajor bus order for 709 full size city buses, for operation in Sochi during the Winter Olympic Games in the first quarter of 2014 and thereafter in Moscow, has gone to Scania Rus of Moscow, a subsidiary of Sweden's Scania AB of Sodertalje, together with full-size bus building subsidiary of the Gaz Group, Golaz, which is based in Nizhniy Novgorod. Scania said that it has worked closely with the Gaz Group and has developed three different versions of its Golaz branded buses. The contract is worth RUB6bn according to Gaz, and includes: Supply of 282 large Golaz-5251 'Voyage' buses - this has been designed for 60 people, including 53 passenger seats (150 are special buses for persons with reduced mobility and wheelchair users); supply of 370 extra-large Golaz-6228 buses - for 95 persons including 63 passenger seats (77 are special buses) and 57 Golaz-52911 'Cruise' coaches with capacity for 45 persons. All Golaz bodies are to be built on chassis and powertrain components from Scania: The Scania chassis are to feature Scania Euro IV and Euro V engines matched with Scania's automated Opticruise gearbox, as well as safety features such as electronic stability program (ESP) for stability and a cruise control system to help drivability and to regulate the set speed during long-distance trips. The wheel arches of the buses, Gaz pointed out, have been modified for possible installation of snow chains.
