East London revival in progress

East and South London are set to benefit from better transport links and associated regeneration resulting from a major upgrade and extension of the East London Line. Residents of Hackney in east London will be able to travel south by train towards Shoreditch, New Cross and on to Croydon without changing trains from next summer. Direct services will be possible following opening of phase one of the East London Railway - London's old underground East London Line restored and extended. The ￡1Bn scheme is designed to improve access and regenerate some of the capital's more deprived areas.
