Good planning and cultural change key to delivering BIM

Building Information Modelling and the increasing use of digital technology in managing infrastructure assets promise great things. But there are many important issues to consider first says Alexandra Luck. Government's Construction Strategy, published in May 2011, calls for "a profound change in the relationship between public authorities and the construction industry to ensure the Government gets the social and economic infrastructure it needs for the long term". This was further supported by the 'Industrial Strategy Construction 2025', published in July 2013 and is being developed still further by 'Digital Built Britain', the strategic plan for Level 3 Building Information Modelling (BIM). Digitally built assets and environments will need to deliver future fiscal, functional, sustainability and growth objectives. As a result they will impact on procurement, delivery and operational processes.
