The scientific literature abounds with publications pertaining to biopharmaceuticals. However, they invariably focus on products for human use. Veterinary applications are rarely considered, although 47 such products have thus far been approved in the EU and/or the USA (Table 1). Between them, these regions represent almost 80% of the global animal healthcare market (http://www.dolcera.com/ wiki/index.php?tiitle=Veterinary_Vaccines_Market_Re-port). Moreover, comparison of veterinary products to those destined for human application reveals some interesting differences in scientific, technological, and commercial terms.
