Working it live in South Australia

TransGrid, Sydney, Australia, has just completed a project for ElectraNet SA (formally ETSA Transmission) in South Australia, replacing sections of damaged conductor on the 132-kV transmission line from Whyalla to Port Lincoln, South Australia. Because this is a radially designed transmission system, the work had to be done using live-line techniques to avoid leaving the population of Port Lincoln in the dark for long periods or running an expensive generator there. This is the first known example of live-conductor replacement at transmission voltages anywhere in Australia.
