Consequences of galvanized scrap use in iron foundries, and technologies for degalvanizing scrap

The quality of the steel beneath the zinc coating makes scrap derived from the production and use of galvanized sheet a premier charge material for foundries and steel producers. Consequences associated with the release of zinc from charginggalvanized steel scrap in some melting operations and new technologies in or approaching commercial use for removal of zinc prior to charging the scrap into melting furnaces are discussed.
