Thinking ahead - Continuing our look at Italy, TTi looks at the short- and medium-term goals for the various transport sectors' authorities

The Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport's most recent objectives focus on the provision of additional services for real-time traffic information, road and maritime safety and rescue, as well as port management. As far as land transport goes, congestion is increasing steadily. The system will therefore have to introduce advanced logistics for the automated management of traffic flows, with enhanced traffic information, goods tracking and the possibility for authorities to direct and govern traffic flows and infrastructure projects. Also, a program is in the pipeline for the automated location and monitoring of hazardous goods.
