With the primary directive being road safety, the VII California partners are steadfast in their determination to bring VII from testbed to a road near you. What is VII? It's cars talking and listening to the roadside right now (as in real time for safety critical applications), right here (at selected WiFi-like hotspots), right everywhere (in the USA, perhaps over 200,000 VII transceivers, listening and talking in bits and bytes) and at the right frequency (75MHz of FCC-provided free, transportation dedicated bandwidth near 5.9GHz, using the developing DSRC/WAVE Standards that employ a chip very similar to a standard office LAN 802.11a).
