For years the hardest part of our machining processes was chip control. Chips would interfere with the workpiece/tool interface and either weld themselves to the workpiece or wrap around just about anything, creating premature tool wear oroutright tool failure. In its quest to maintain an ever-improving level of tool wear and cycle time reduction, the 50-year-old machine jobshop tried everything-different feedrates, tool geometries, coolant types, tool coatings, chip breakerconfigurations, and so on. Nothing made a difference. Only after Slabe went with a high pressure coolant system combined with its own invention, the MAXCool attachment, did it notice significant tool wear and cycle time reduction. Using 1000 to 3000 psihigh pressure pumps and the MAXCool, Slabe now removes metal faster and more efficiently than it thought imaginable.
