The insulator has a head with clips or similar to hold the conductor and an integral skirt with a transverse aperture to accommodate a fence post. The skirt is cylindrical and is threaded externally to receive a tightening nut. The end of the skirt has a thin slit (230,230a,230b) over half the diameter and a sector cut out (231) over the other half such that the skirt halves (225a,225b) will open to receive a post from the side.
