Field observations on the efficacy of a Tylvalosin treatment of piglets with multifactorial diarrhoe and pneumonia

Over a period of one year an outbreak of severe diarrhoea and pneumonia in 4 to 11 weeks old piglets and finishers was seen on a weaning to finishing farm. The mortality rate was 5 % in the nursery and 3.8 % in the finishing phase. From the involved pathogens Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, PRRSV and PCV2 could be detected. The responsible agent for the diarrhoea could not be identified.The paper describes the trends in efficacy of an Aivlosin treatment of 882 piglets on development of disease and animals from weaning to slaughter using results of laboratory and clinical examinations and economic parameters.The results showed non significant results such as decrease in severity and incidence of disease, reduction of mortality and improvement of the economic parameters for the nursery.
