Nucor Gets Full Production Of Trinidad DRI Plant Off The Ground

The world's largest mini steel mill, Nucor Corporation of the USA announced January 16 that the heat up of the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) facility at Nu-Iron Unlimited commenced on December 5, 2006, followed by the start-up of DRI production on December 30, 2006. It also announced that in the second week of production, the Nu-Iron team completed a five-day performance test surpassing an average production of 220 tons per hour, achieving excellent metallization and producing DRI containing more than 2 percent carbon. The DRI produced at Nu-Iron will be supplied as a clean raw material to Nucor's steel mills operating in the 19 states of the USA.
