Nucor idles Trinidad DRI plant due to Covid-19

Nucor has temporarily idled its Nu-Iron direct-reduced iron (DRI) plant in Trinidad and Tobago to comply with government policies aimed at preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus, a company spokesperson told Fastmarkets. The move will not impact Nucor’s steel mills in the United States, she said in an email on Monday April 6. “Our steel mills that use DRI as feedstock continue to operate and are utilizing existing DRI inventory, and are not affected by the outage,” the Nucor spokesperson said in the email.
