Mitsubishi Corp announced June 18 the execution of an agreement by its wholly-owned subsidiary Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd ("MDP") with Murchison Metals Limited ("MML") on the development of MML's iron ore assets in the mid-west region of Western Australia. The Agreement also includes the joint development the proposed associated mainland multi-user rail and port infrastructure and envisages a total investment of 3.0 billion Australia dollars. The project contemplates iron ore production at 26 Mt/a, with initial shipment scheduled for 2011 to mainly Asian markets.
