There's a gap in the market for a sustainable, effective, and cost-friendly alternative to the current packaging solutions for sweet and savory snacks, including nuts, dried fruit, chips,and trail mixes, says Mike Stuckey, senior director of food packaging at MeadWestvaco (MWV). Today's on-the-go consumer increasingly turns to these types of snacks for a quick breakfast or mid-day energy boost, and the composite cans that currendy package most of these foods are in need of category innovation, he said during a panel discussion on "Novel Technologies" at Packaging Digest's "Innovations in Food & Beverage Packaging" last month in Chicago.
