In an effort to bring curb-side recycling to Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he will partially privatize collection services, reports Resource Recycling. The program being proposed by Emanuel is similar to those in cities such as Charlotte, N.C., and Phoenix, which use both private companies and city departments for curbside recycling services. The proposed plan is expected to deliver pickup service to 20,000 households that currently lack it and will eventually extend curbside pickup to the entire city.
