In Europe, the regulation of products that are engineered from human tissue has traditionally been a responsibility of national governments. This will soon change with the expected introduction of a new regulation that would harmonise the rules for commercialising these products and bring this technology into the same legal framework as that for other advanced therapies such as gene and somatic cell therapy.
