Registration of Clinical Trials in Germany

Since 1948, over one million clinical trials have been carried out and over 50000 are commenced every year worldwide without being accurately listed and registered1. In recent years, an increasing public requirement for information about clinical trials has become apparent, the primary reason being a lack of transparency. The following case is an example of this. In June 2004, the New York attorney general filed a lawsuit against a major pharmaceutical company, alleging that the company had committed fraud by withholding negative information and misrepresenting prescribing data relating to the use of one of their drugs in children.
