The Critical Angle Can Override the Brewster Angle

As a culminating activity in their study ofoptics, my students investigate polarizedlight and the Brewster angle. In this exercisethey encounter a situation in which it is impossibleto measure the Brewster angle for light reflectingfrom a particular surface. This paper describes theactivity and explains the students' observations.
