Although selection has been responsible for genetic gains realized in local pig breeding farms, there is always a concern that the extensive use of a few outstanding boars and/or sows may narrow the genetic base and result in detrimental effects from inbreeding in the long term. Since this is a real danger, then relationships and inbreeding are valid concerns, and future selections should be influenced significantly by ancestry.
