The PVC sector in China has developed rapidly in recent years.The output of PVC was 5.03 million tons in 2004,an increase of 24.76% over the previous year,and the apparent consumption was 7.139 million tons,showing a rise of 12.3% over 2003.The reason for the PVC output increase was that the proportion of PVC using calcium carbide process was relatively high,the production cost was therefore less affected by the high oil price,especially in northwestern regions where the prices of electricity and raw materials were relatively cheaper,the profit margin was larger and the output of PVC increased rapidly.
