Political unrest in China and a stemmed tide of Chinese travelers weighed on the Estee Lauder Companies' fiscal 2015 first quarter, but the firm recorded gains in Europe while benefiting from strong makeup sales globally and double-digit growth in its online business. Like other multinational cosmetics players that have reported financials in recent weeks, Lauder took a hit during the quarter from slowing consumption in China, reporting flat sales in Hong Kong for the period.
