As L'Oreal SA has added small independent brands to its beauty portfolio, it has been motivated by their unique products and ways of doing business, according to exec Carol Hamilton. Hamilton, president of the firm's Luxe division - which includes brands such as Giorgio Armani, Lancome and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as "indie" brands Kiehls, Clarisonic and Urban Decay - discussed L'Oreal's integration of indie brands at the Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors annual meeting and CITY awards ceremony June 18 in New York.
