The current study investigated the capability of the Big Five personality traits to predict ownership of specific OS-branded smartphones, which in turn were expected to predict affiliation toward a specific major type. Demographic information and personality traits were assessed in 101 undergraduate students from North Carolina Central University via a self-report demographic survey and the NEO Five-Factor Inventory-3. Through the use of Spearman rho correlations and the Chi-square test, responses by respondents indicated that Extraversion was a significant predictor of specific OS-branded smartphone ownership, while OS-branded smartphone type was not a significant predictor of affiliated major type. Together, these findings demonstrate a lack of statistically relevant association between personality traits, smartphone type, and academic orientation.
