With a major registration deadline under the REACH chemicals program less than a year away, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is implementing "targeted" compliance checks on dossiers, the agency reports during its May 23 Stakeholders Day in Helsinki. Under REACH, companies that import or manufacture chemicals in Europe in annual volumes over 100 but below 1,000 tons are required to register those substances with ECHA by May 31, 2013. A 2010 registration deadline applied to companies that import or manufacture chemicals in quantities of more than 1,000 tons per year, or chemicals with suspected carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic properties.
