The directive has had a huge impact on the NHS because 96 per cent of all hospitals are involved in clinical trials in some form,said Paul Forsey,of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust.Most effect is on non-commercial trials which,before May 2004,were run under the DDX (doctors and dentists exemption) and CTX (clinical trials exemption) schemes.About 20 NHS sites have applied for an MA.
