Five new species of the subgenus Hemistenus (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae, Steninae) from China

Hemistenus Motschulsky is a subgenus of Stenus Latreille (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Steninae). In addition to the 46 Hemistenus species described from China, five species are here described as new to science: Stenus (Hemistenus) ruidirugulosus sp. nov., S. (Hemistenus) rotulirugulosus sp. nov., S. (Hemistenus) toppi sp. nov., S. (Hemistenus) crispirugulosus sp. nov., S. (Hemistenus) pullidistortus sp. nov. The type specimens of the new species were collected in Guangxi and Sichuan, China. We recognize the five new species as belonging to viridanus-group together with S. (Hemistenus) viridanus Champion, 5. (Hemistenus) viridanoides Puthz, S. (Hemistenus) viridimicans Puthz, 5. (Hemistenus) cyanogaster Rougemont and 5. (Hemistenus) wuyimontium Puthz.They have been found to occur only in Oriental region. A key to species and illustrations to each species are given in the text. All the type specimens are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
