摘要

The end of 2005 is near, so what better time to look back on the last 12 months? No, I'm not going to bore you with a page of cliche-ridden, old-yearew-year claptrap. Just a review of some of the big news events to see how the year looks from this end, I set aside a handful of newspapers throughout 2005, just to see how some of the business-related, headline-making events would stack up, so here goes: Jan. 2: "Deficits a growing danger." Two big deficits-trade and government spending-ruled the headlines early in 2005. The latest data available in early January, which was from 2004Q3, put the current account deficit at 167.4 billion dollars for the quarter, or nearly 6 percent of GDP. If it continues to grow, we can't say we weren't warned.
