Laser, roll forming technology combine to make tailored tubes

In a joint venture with ARKU Maschinenbau and TRUMPF Lasertechnik, Dreistern has designed what it says is the first machine for the production of tailored tubes. This new concept, an amalgamation of laser and roll forming technologies, makes possible production of laser-welded tailored tubes. The tubes, similar in concept to tailored blanks, have strength- and weight-specific wall thickness around the cross section, complying with localized strength requirements to help achieve savings in materials weight and, therefore, cost.
