Strengthening the chain: Artificial ED geographical division and the effect on attending physician performance

Last year, due to increasing volume and staffing demands, we chose to geographically divide our mid-sized urban ED clinical space into two halves regarding attending coverage. The resident, physician assistant, and nurse practioner coverage remained undivided due to clinical work experience variation among providers and scheduling complexities.
