In preparation for celebrating our 25th anniversary, I have been asked by the Editor to provide to the membership an American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) historical prospective from the eyes of the Executive Director. I am unable to comment on the "construction years," that is, the time from birth up to approximately the fifth year of existence. I hope you will find the information I can provide insightful, and that it allows you to feel good about an organization that has survived many critical challenges in its short history. Those who reside in or visit Chicago during the summer months know what I mean when I say that it was a hot and sticky day when I was first introduced to the AACS. On Friday, June 26, 1992, I was interviewing for the position of Executive Director. All I knew was that I was going to meet a leadership representative in one of the many high-rises that stand along Michigan Avenue. My marching orders stated that I was to be on the 24th floor at 3:00 pm.
