POSCOs Steel Making Plant II at Pohang Works Increases Output of API Products

POSCO announced it has recently completed the automation in operation of converter decks at Steel Making Plant II at its Pohang Works, increasing the number of working days for dephosperization greatly to 270 from 160 per year and hence, lifting production capacity of the American Petroleum Institute (API) products with the phosphate content of less than 100ppm. There are two methods of the dephosphorization work that removes phosphate from hot metal; namely, one on the torpedo car and another in the converter, but the dephosphorization efficiency is far higher when conducted in converters. However, the dephosphorization work in the converter has so far required the deck of converters to be manually opened and closed, taking additional workers to do the job, but it was bulky and heavy, putting worker into danger of having safety accidents.
