Fosterage of Core R&D Engineers in Major Industries Stressed

The necessity to further foster core R&D engineers in the sectors of steel, resources and high-tech materials and to strengthen the college education on major subjects in the department of science and engineering was raised. The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) invited August 25 Deputy Prime Minister in charge of education to a conference of directors of major enterprises who are responsible for engineering at each firm. At the conference, those directors stressed it is urgent to foster core R&D engineers and raised the necessity to strengthen the college education on major subjects in the department of science and engineering not only in the segment of a growth engine for next generation, but also in the fields of steel, resources and high-tech materials. At the meeting, the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development urged the colleges and enterprises to jointly push ahead with the reflection of industrial demand in the Brain Korea 21 program that will begin to be implemented next year.
