Korea's Exports, Imports of Steel Products Increase in January-August

Korea's exports and imports of steel products continued to be on the rise in the January-August period. According to the data from the Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA), overseas shipments of domestic steel products bound not only for Asia, but also for such long-distance areas as Europe and Africa increased in the first eight months of the year. In the nation's trade of steel products with China, however, exports showed a continuing drop, while imports sharply increased. In the January-August period, Korea's exports of steel products to China declined 8.1 percent from the same period last year, posting 2.68 million tons, whereas its imports surged as high as 43.1 percent to 10.05 million tons.
