Special Steel Weight Increasing in Crude Steel Production

Accounting for 14.6 percent of annual crude steel production in 2003. Special steel weight in the total crude steel production, which reached the level of 14 percent last year for the first time in the domestic steel industry, has been increasing every year. According to a recent report by the Korea Iron & Steel Association on the special steel statistics, production of crude steel for special steel posted 6,773,000 tons in 2003, up 14.1 percent from 5,937,000 tons in 2002. It is because that the Steel Making Plant III of POSCO, which was completed in April 2003, increased the output of crude steel for stainless steel, swelling alloy steel production volume. Crude steel production for stainless steel registered 1,982,000 tons in 2003, up 27.0 percent from 1,561,000 tons in 2002.
