H-beam Sales Surge 12.1 percent in January-February

Demand sharply picks up despite being in a typical seasonal low-demand period, predicting continuing prosperous salesat home in March. The aggregate sales of H-beams in the January-February period exceeded 500,000 tons, an increase of about 60,000 tons from the corresponding period of 2003. Despite being in a low-demand season, the accumulated production of H-beams in the first two-month period of the year also was brisk, marking 550,000 tons. The combined sales of H-beams by INI Steel and Dongkuk Steel from January through February reached 577,128 tons, up 12.1 percent from the year-earlier period's 514,976 tons. Particularly, exports shot up 85.1 percent year-on-year to over 200,000 tons. Such a high rise in exports was analyzed to have come from the exporters' transfer of a large volume of their December shipments to January this year.
