On two occasions in recent years, while walking between my apartment and thesubway station in urban Forest Hills, Queens County, New York, I haveencountered the anomalous spectacle of a flock of large, noisy, bright-green andred parrots. Other passers-by were as impressed as I, and each time a crowdgathered in amazement.
