The Carlsbad Potash Basin Carlsbad, New Mexico

Within the past three years an occurrence of blue and purple halite in the Intrepid Potash East mine near Carlsbad, New Mexico has produced world-class specimens. An assortment of other evaporite minerals, including the world's finest crystals of the rare potassium-magnesium sulfate langbeinite and the potassium-sodium sulfate aphthitalite, have elevated the Carlsbad Potash District to the status of a contemporary classic locality.
