A STUDY OF SPERM-EGG INTERACTION THROUGH TRANSGENIC MICE

Sperm-egg interaction has been studied extensively from the viewpoint of molecular biology. Many molecules have been reported which are theorized to participate in this process. Even resticting the focus to sperm-zona interaction, related molecures include zonadhesin (Hardy and Garbers, 1995), sp56 (Bookbinder et al., 1995), 95kd zona-receptor type-protein kinase, SLIP1, GalTase and acrosin, among others. However, recent gene disruption experiments have revealed that the acrosin (Baba et al., 1994) and GalTase may not in fact be essential for sperm-zona interaction. The results may cast the necessity of réévaluation of these "importance" of other factors' roles in sperm-egg interaction.
