The health habits of high school students affect not only their current health but also their future risk for obesity and cardiovascular dilease. National surveys revealed that the majority of US high school students do not consume the recommended daily amounts of fruits and vegetables or meet recommended aerobic physical activity requirements. Almost one third of high school students engage in 3 or more hours per day oft sedentary activity (ie, using computers for nonacademic purposes or watching television). The probability of students engaging in unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and failing to follow healthy behavior guidelines is increased when they are stressed, a common occurrence during high school.
